ON DEMAND:
U2030 ET CoE Meeting: What Other Factors Should We Consider During the Energy Transition?

Session Title

What Are the Other Factors that we Face on the Path Forward?

Session Description

When we discuss the future of the grid, we often focus on shift to the central generation that has been the foundation of our grid for 100 years.  In fact, there is quite a bit of work ongoing regarding the generation transition.  Do we move quickly to solar and wind?  Is hydro considered environmentally correct?  Why not Nuclear?  All of these questions are real and important.  In addition to these considerations, however, we need to focus on what the grid will really look like in the future.  How will we serve the wide variety of consumers that will exist at the preferred levels of reliability, cost, environmental impact, and resiliency?  Will we build more transmission, or remove aging lines and create energy locally?  How will we deal with the upgrade of distribution systems to support our cars and other electric appliances?  And best of all, how can we find common ground from an often-contradictory pool of ideas?

Please join us for this unique session for our U2030 members and invited guests. Our featured guest speaker will be Andy Zetlan, a 50+ year veteran of the utility industry whose experience spans the evolving utility industry and its economics, customer management, asset and work management, distributed energy resources, demand management and microgrids. Andy will share his insights and experiences in a lively discussion with our members.
