U2030 TL CoE Mtg: Transforming the Utility Sector through Inclusivity

Transformative Leadership Center of Excellence Meeting Abstract:

Inclusivity is a competitive advantage. Research from McKinsey shows that gender-diverse and culturally diverse leadership teams outperform their homogeneous peers by over 30%, highlighting the business imperative of diversity and inclusion. If it’s that simple, why can’t companies transform overnight? Because it takes work.

As traditionally male-dominated sectors like utilities battle to stay ahead of the curve, they must commit to inclusivity. This critical commitment is challenging to implement due to legacy practices, fixed mindsets, unintentional tokenism, and other biases. That’s why utilities need systemic change, rewiring how people think and engage in the workplace.

What does that change look like? Where is the most significant opportunity? Why does it matter more today than ever before?

During this first session of U2030’s Transformative Leadership Center of Excellence (CoE), Cheryl Stookes, Chief Revenue Officer at E-Source, and Chris Hilborn, Vice President of Customer Insights & Solutions at Liberty, will answer these critical questions and others.

Cheryl will start by discussing how leaders can turn their inclusivity intentions into actions through comprehensive and systematic change. An accomplished sales and marketing business leader, Cheryl is also a passionate advocate for inclusivity. Her book, “The Token Woman: A Guide to Thriving as a Female Leader in Sales,” draws on her extensive experience in the technology industry to offer women across sectors a pathway to leadership.

From advocacy and coaching to mentoring and sponsorship to a shift in hiring and management practices, Cheryl will detail practical communication and operational changes that utility leaders can use to create workplaces that aren’t just safe and welcoming but designed to help businesses and their people thrive.

Chris will share how he transforms Liberty’s culture by infusing diversity and inclusion into its fabric. Drawing from his extensive experience and strategic insight, he’s spearheading a movement within Liberty that transcends mere intentions and dives deep into actionable change.
