Nashville, TN – The Utility 2030 Collaborative (U2030) is proud to announce its collaboration with Oracle Energy and Water to host the second Futures Thinking workshop. The workshop is a highlight for all attendees of the U2030 Annual SPARK Meeting, set to take place in Nashville, Tennessee, from September 16-18, 2024.
Building on the overwhelming success of the initial workshop held during the U2030 Future-Think-a-Thon, June 4-5 at the Oracle Industry Lab, this event promises to deliver a transformative experience to an even broader audience at SPARK. Attendees will encounter new challenges and parameters, ensuring a fresh and engaging experience for those participating in both events.
What is Futures Thinking?
Futures Thinking, developed by the Institute for the Future (IFTF), addresses the human tendency to focus on immediate circumstances rather than consider long-term possibilities. This method utilizes signals from news stories, future innovations, environmental and market conditions, and other sources to challenge participants to ideate solutions in a "what if" frame. Cultivating this forward-thinking mindset in the rapidly evolving utility industry is crucial for maintaining competitiveness and success. IFTF's mission is to "prepare the world to create better, more equitable futures by disrupting short-term thinking with visions of transformative possibilities."
Workshop Benefits
Facilitated by Oracle’s Head of Product Design and Research Jod Kaftan and Senior Product Marketing Manager Kim Grego, this workshop will equip utility professionals with a vital new skill set, enabling them to:
Anticipate Future Trends: Learn to identify and interpret signals that indicate emerging trends and potential disruptions in the utility sector.
Innovate Proactively: Develop the ability to create innovative solutions in response to hypothetical future scenarios, preparing for real-world applications.
Enhance Strategic Planning: Improve long-term strategic planning by incorporating forward-looking insights and methodologies.
“We are thrilled to offer this unique opportunity for utility professionals to enhance their strategic thinking and innovation skills,” says Vanessa Edmonds, Executive Director of U2030. “By participating in the Futures Thinking workshop, attendees will be better prepared to navigate the utility industry's future landscape complexities.”
