Design Thinking and Future Thinking are invaluable for utilities navigating the path to sustainability, as they foster creative ideation and strategic foresight, enabling the development of innovative solutions that address both present challenges and future uncertainties.

In June 2024, U2030 hosted the sold-out, competitive Future-Think-a-Thon at the Oracle Innovation Lab in Deerfield, IL. Forty participants explored the Futures Thinking methodology developed by the Institute for the Future.

The event featured transformational leaders, including the Mayor of Deerfield, IL, Daniel Shapiro, Assistant Manager of the Village of Deerfield, Andrew Lichterman, along with industry leaders Ahmad Ababneh (PG&E), Ajit Apte (BGE), Shawn Adderly (PG&E), and Fred Gomos (NiSource).

Attendees toured the Oracle Innovation Center, engaged in a workshop segment, experimented with creativity through a cha-cha lesson, drafted 10-year-out solutions, and wrapped up with a comradery-building awards ceremony for the winning team.

Oracle Innovation Lab Masterclass Recap

Georgia Power Masterclass Recap

In May 2024, U2030 hosted the sold-out, competitive Design-Think-a-Thon at Georgia Power Company, where 65 participants delved into Design Thinking principles to create innovative solutions for overcoming internal silos and addressing the energy and water capacity dilemma.

The event began with a community service project at Atlanta's Historic Fourth Ward Park, followed by an insightful panel featuring Georgia Power leaders Latanza Adjei, Chima Chijioke, and Cheryl Davis. Attendees engaged in Design Thinking training, solution ideation sessions, a LEGO-building challenge, and concluded with a lively awards ceremony for the winners.
